Our Former Director

Sam Shliff, band director prior to Leonard Lutz, passed away on January 22, 2004, at the age of 68, in Ferndale Washington. He had been a resident of Creston and he directed the San Luis Obispo County Band from 1993 to June of 2000. Shliff began his music career at California State University at Long Beach where he headed the Music Technical Services Department. He also lectured at Orange Coast College for various music classes and taught vocational music.

Locally, Shliff directed the Paso Robles Pioneer Players in performances of the musicals "Gypsy," "110 in The Shade," "Pirates of Penzance," and "My Fair Lady."

Sam was an organist and choir director for several local churches and was also director of the White Caps Band of Morro Bay, the Main Street Jazz Band, and the Morro Bay German Band.
