SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY BAND

(Since 1874)

Thank you for your interest in the San Luis Obispo County Band. Our volunteer musicians range in age from junior high school students to senior retirees. Many of our members have rediscovered the pleasure of instrumental music after not playing for many years, and others are finding our group as another outlet for their musical talents. Just come to our rehearsals and you'll fit right in!

In addition to 30 some performances each year, we play at the SLO Farmer's Market one Thursday night each month from May through September. Rehearsals are most other Thursday nights, 7-9 pm in the Music Room at San Luis Obispo High School (see map below). We are part of the Adult school but auditions are not required and grades are not issued. There is a $25 quarterly tuition fee, but no one is excluded because of inability to pay.

You need to provide your own non-string instrument, and your own music stand would be convenient. Music owned by the band is available at rehearsals and performances. If for some reason the folder you're using is short a piece of music, please check with the librarian to see if that part is available. We encourage practice at home, but the music must be returned by the next performance or rehearsal (whichever comes first).

SLO Band hats are provided for our members. We also have a number of uniform blazers for our performances. Our summer uniform, the vest, can be purchased for $15. Please wear long black pants, black shoes and socks, a white shirt and a dark tie for the rest of your uniform.

A calendar of events is distributed at band rehearsals. The board meets after practice on the first Thursday of each month, and anyone interested is invited to attend. Come join the band!
